In the very late 1960s in Dublin, Ireland, the Italian Borza family bought a small grocery shop on the Cromwellsfort Road, Walkinstown. With massive housing developments and Walkinstown establishing itself as a growing suburb in South Dublin, the future was bright. And that would continue for many decades into the 2000s.
Just like the nearby local Submarine Bar, the local Chipper became about growing up in the area and the power of local businesses.
But new generations, the ease of online food ordering, local chippers and takeaways are finding the path ahead a great deal more of a struggle.
In this Radio Espial episode, member Teresa Borza Forte recounts the history of the family chipper through her eyes and the challenges ahead.
This is part of my Radio Espial Local History series.
